Thirty members of the Trinidad and Tobago National Men’s Under 17 team underwent medical screenings last Tuesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium as they continue their build up to the CONCACAF Under 17 Championship and Final round of World Cup qualifiers in Honduras next month.

The  Healthnet/MyCard Sport medical team conducted a doctor’s fitness examination, blood pressure, body mass index, vision screening, fasting blood glucose, cholesterol, blood and iron count, ECG heart test and Spirometry lung capacity testing. All tests were conducted on-site using Healthnet’s Medical Mobile unit at the Couva venue.  This is all part of the relationship between Healthnet and the TTFA which started last August when Healthnet agreed to a deal worth over $3 million in the next four years to cover medical screening for all national teams.

Trinidad and Tobago Men’s Under 20 Team captain Shannon Gomez is still trying to pull himself together from the disappointing of this country’s failure in their quest to qualify for the 2015 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Gomez and the rest of the returned home on Thursday night from Montego Bay where they lost their final group match, 1-0 to the United States, at the CONCACAF Under 20 Championship. The result meant T&T were booted out of the tournament with Panama qualifying for the World Cup and the US and Guatemala advancing to the playoffs.

Gomez made a call for the current bunch to be kept in training for future outings.

UNDER 20S TO GO ALL OUT VS USA... RAMOS EXPECTS TOUGH CHALLENGE FROM T&T

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 Men’s team will have  final throw of the dice as they seek to push themselves through to the playoffs of the CONCACAF Finals when they take on United States at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Wednesday from 6:30pm TT time.

Two successive defeats to Guatemala and Panama threw T&T  (4 points) off course after they had played undefeated in their opening two matches and all seemed lost following the loss to Panama. However the competition rules seem to be favouring the young “Soca Warriors”  as despite their inferior goal difference to the US, a win for T&T on Wednesday will push them to seven points, same as the US and T&T will advance on the better head to head.

This bit if of news brought renewed hope to the T&T camp as head coach Derek King pointed out.

“This has given us a lot of hope going into the US game,” King told TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 men’s team suffered their first defeat, going down disappointingly 2-0 to Guatemala on Wednesday but are still very much in the race to securing one of two playoff spots at the CONCACAF Final Round of World Cup qualification in Jamaica.

The loss on Wednesday left T&T in fourth place with four points with a plus 2 goal difference, level  on  points with United States which is ahead on a +7 goal difference after their 8-0 win over Aruba. Panama is atop the group with nine points and Guatemala in second on seven. Jamaica is fifth with one point while Aruba remains in the cellar position.

T&T has it in their own hands as victories in their next encounter against Panama on Sunday and against the USA next Wednesday in Montego Bay is likely to push them into the playoffs from which the top two teams will advance to the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.
