CURACAO COACH RATES T&T HIGHLY AFTER 4-0 RESULT

Curacao head coach Henry Caldera described Trinidad and Tobago as the best team in the tournament after the hosts came away comfortable 4-0 winners in their second match of the Caribbean Under 20 Championship at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday night.

Caldera was speaking during the post-match press conference when he said he had hoped to see a closer contest but his team turned out to be no match for T&T.

Curacao put T&T out of the 2013 Under 20 World Cup qualification with a 1-0 win in Kingston, Jamaica but this time found the going much tougher against the Derek King- coached outfit which got goals from Kadeem Corbin ( 44’ and 60’) Jabari Mitchell (33’) and Aikim Andrews (83’).

T&T UNDER 20S START WITH 2-1 WIN OVER SURINAME

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 men’s team got their 2015 FIFA Under 20 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning a start with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Suriname at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Friday night.

Substitute Jabari Mitchell hammered home the  winner from the edge of the box in the 76th minute after Andre Fortune had leveled the scores for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 2th.

The visitors stunned T&T with a fourth minute opening item from Orveo Faerber who was able to place the ball past the advancing Johan Welch in goal for T&T. (Photo shows Andre Fortune converting the first half penalty/Courtesy Allan Crane)

YORKE GETS BEHIND UNDER 20 TEAM

He was the first ever captain to lead a Trinidad and Tobago to both a youth and senior FIFA World Cup and now he’s getting behind the current National Under 20 Football team as they get set to begin their quest to qualify for the 2015 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke today sent well wishes to the current team which goes into action tomorrow against Suriname from 7:15pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on the opening day of the Caribbean Football Union Under 20 Finals.

Yorke led T&T to the 1991 FIFA Youth World Cup in Portugal with a side that was coached by Bertille St Clair and included the likes of Anthony Sherwood, Clayton Ince, Angus Eve, Michael McComie, Shawn Boney and others.

“It’s a fantastic tournament to qualify for at such a young age and it would be great if the current Trinidad and Tobago Under 20 team can get off to the right start in their match against Suriname tomorrow,” Yorke told TTFA Media from London on Thursday.

T&T UNDER 20 SQUAD NAMED FOR CARIBBEAN FINALS

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Derek King has finalized his 20-man squad that will begin their 2015 FIFA Under 20 World Cup qualifying campaign against Suriname on the opening day of the Caribbean Football Union U-20 Finals at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Friday.

King, who is also an assistant coach with the T&T Senior Team and a former National youth and senior team defender, has been overseeing the team’s preparations for the past couple months along with assistant coach Dale Saunders. The team manager is Douglas Archer

He explained on Monday that his squad is a balanced one which he believes can be strong contenders in the qualifying campaign.
