Spirits are high but the focus is real for T&T Women’s Team

That was the description of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women’s Team camp in Philadelphia coming from head coach Randy Waldrum on the eve of this country’s CONCACAF Semi-final round clash with Costa Rica on Friday at the Philadelphia’s PPL Park

Waldrum also expressed thanks to the Government of the Republic and the TTFA for the incentive announced to the squad as they continue to embark on qualification for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

The American-born head coach  said there have been improvements to injured players Tasha St Louis, Karyn Forbes, Janine Francois and Ayana Russell.

MOLINO EMBRACES NUMBER 10 ROLE

Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Kevin Molino says he’s under no pressure wearing the number 10 shirt and playing the role that Russell Latapy perfected during his international career for this country.

The 24-year-old Orlando City standout has scored eight goals in 26 matches for T&T, four of those goals coming in the recent Caribbean Cup semi-finals.

When quizzed about the comparison with Latapy, Molino said he looked up the “Little Magician”.

U-17S BOUNCE BACK WITH 3-0 WIN OVER BARBADOS

Trinidad and Tobago’s Men’s Under 17 footballers bounced back from their opening defeat to St Lucia to whip Barbados 3-0 in the second group match of the Caribbean Under 17 Final Round of World Cup qualifiers at the Sylvio  Cator Stadium in Port-au-Prince on Tuesday.

Anthony Herbert gave T&T the start they needed with a 14th minute item and Tekay Hoyce then converted a 50th minute penalty before Dareem Daniel with a ripper in the 77th minute to seal the three points for T&T. Goalkeeper Enrique Changiah also made a double save to prevent a penalty attempt by St Lucia in added on time.

Haiti topped St Lucia 6-1 in the other match to lead the standings with six points ahead of T&T (3 points) and St Lucia (three points)

T&T CAPTAIN CREDITS TTFA FOR ACQUIRING WALDRUM'S SERVICES

 

“Coming into this tournament we knew all we needed was two wins to get out the group.. Those two wins have now  seen us into the semi finals where we hope to make it three wins in a row.”

Those were the words of Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Team captain Maylee Attin-Johnson following T&T’s 2-1 victory over Guatemala on Monday night to seal this country’s place in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Chester, Pennsylvania on Friday.

The squad was scheduled to arrive in Chester around 3pm T&T time on Tuesday.

“We knew US was going to be a challenging one. For us we always believed that we were a class above Haiti and Guatemala,” she continued.
