bMobile San Juan Jabloteh captured the coveted FA Trophy and the $80,000 first prize when they edged DirecTV North East Stars 1-0 in Friday’s 2010 final at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
Playing before an appreciative audience which included scores of supporters from Sangre Grande, a 2nd minute goal from Kennedy Hinkson did the trick for the Terry Fenwick coached outfit. And some superb goalkeeping by Cleon John held off everything North East threw at the San Juan men.
John was later rewarded for his showing by being given the “Man of the Match “ award courtesy the Fan Club of Movie Towne. And National Under 20 player Johan Peltier was adjudged the “One for the Future” award courtesy for S2 Events Limited. Both winners were adjudged by media correspondents.
Hinkson notched the winner when he collected a pass from the right and held off Kevaughn Connell as he made his way into the box before firing past Michael Woods.
John pulled off two brilliant saves to deny Gary Glasgow, first in the sixth minute and then on the half hour mark. He then denied Sean Fraser in added on time.
For their second place finish, North East took away $40,000 while losing semi-finalists Defence Force and Caledonia AIA received $15,000 each. John took home a trophy and a $1000 gift voucher for FIFA line apparel from The Fan Club while Peltier was presented with a trophy and a $1,500 cheque.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for the club. We’ve worked hard all season, we’ve had our struggles as a club but I’m so thrilled for the players and everyone else involved with the club. We knew it would be a difficult final but my players accepted the challenge and responded with a match winning performance. I couldn’t ask for much more for them on such an occasion,” Fenwick said following the victory. Jabloteh have now won the FA Trophy on three occasions since its inception in 1927 following previous success in 1998 and 2005.
