Akeem Roach of M&M Harvard scored a hattrick, while Jahbarry Thomas and Tafari Williams each netted first half efforts to inspire their team to a 5-2 win over Mayaro Spurs in the Under-17 division of the National Youth League at the Mayaro Recreation Ground, yesterday. Romario Gonzales and Rendell Mc Intosh scored consolation efforts for the losers. Roach, now sitting on four goals in just two games is equalled as league top scorer by FC Santa Rosa’s Andre Rampersad who also netted three goals on the day. Rampersad’s hattrick and a single item from Duane Muckette secured a 4-1 walkover of Eagles United. Maalik Campbell was Eagles’ lone scorer, the Guardian wrote.
In an exciting Group B encounter, West Side Super Starz FC were on the wrong scoreline of a 2-3 result inflicted by a resurgent Club Sando side. Club Sando which last week lost 2-1 to Joe Public started well with an early Kirby Brewster goal in the 11th minute. They, however, began to stutter when the “Super Starz” responded with a Brandon Prince and Andrew Charles brace. The two goals were scored in quick succession halfway through the first half. Kyle Small’s Club Sando team responded well in the latter stages on the second half when Kristoff Alexander scored in the 72nd. Keron Brooks sealed the win in the 90th minute.
WASA FC and Joe Public were the other Group B teams which were supposed to be in action. The match, however, was abandoned after a player from WASA received a red card, reducing the already handicapped team running with seven players to six players. Next Sunday, Group B leaders Cap Off Youths will take on West Side Super Starz at the Waterloo Secondary School, Caroni from 10 am. At the same time, Eagles United will face M&M Harvard while Club Sando travels to WASA, St Joseph to challenge WASA FC. QPCC will go up against Mayaro Spurs later on from 2 pm at a venue to be announced. (May 15,2011)
