CAPELLO NAMES SQUAD: BECKHAM, ROONEY IN FOR T&T AND USA FRIENDLIES Print E-mail

England coach Fabio Capello has named a 31-man squad to face USA at Wembley, and travel to Trinidad and Tobago for England's final match of the season four days later, the FA announced on its official website and also informed the TTFF on Sunday.

Joe Hart receives his first call up to the England squad after a strong season with Manchester City, while there are six further players who along with Hart are yet to earn an England senior cap.

Among those players are West Ham United forward Dean Ashton, defenders Phil Jagielka, David Wheater and Stephen Warnock, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

A quartet of players from newly-crowned Premier League Champions Manchester United are included, with Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves and Wayne Rooney all involved during Sunday's title-clinching win at Wigan Athletic. And star attraction David Beckham is also in the line up along with Peter Crouch

T&T coach Francisco Maturana in an immediate reaction said he was very pleased to see the strong line up named by Capello ahead of the June 1 international at the Hasely Crawford  Stadium which is already sold out.

"I think it's a very strong squad and this is very good news. I want to play a strong England team and Capello is making this happen. England have a lot of world class players and they want to get good results and get their team playing its best football before their World Cup campaign begins. We are also doing the same with some young players and also the experienced ones. I am really looking forward to this game and I am sure all of Trinidad and Tobago will be very, very excited for this date. We will continue our preparations with the plans that we have and hope to be ready for this game. It is vital for both teams before they start their qualification for South Africa " Maturana told TTFF Media.

Sunderland midfielder Carlos Edwards, who was in the team for the 2006 World Cup clash added: "I can't wait. I see and play against these players  in the Premier League and to hit would be fantastic ave them play in my home country. It’s definitely a score to settle and I’m sure all our guys will be up for it. I’ve spoken to the mates up here as well and everyone is looking forward to this clash,” Edwards added.

The six UK-based players in the T&T squad so far include Stern John, Edwards, Clayton Ince, Kenwyne Jones,  Jason Scotland and  Dennis Lawrence. (May 11, 2008)
