 Dwight Yorke insists he has made no decision over his future after playing what many predict was the last game of a glittering Premier League career.The Sunderland midfielder wants to play for one more season and showed all of his experience with an influential performance as the Black Cats' season ended with a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal yesterday. The 36-year-old, who started for the first time since January, is out of contract this summer and will have talks with boss Roy Keane this week. He said: "The gaffer and I have spoken a couple of times and there will be more talk in the week ahead. "I have just got to go away and take stock. If the manager wants to speak to me, he knows where I am. I feel like I'm in good nick. "I've been very lucky over the years with the injuries and I do want to keep playing. Whether it's at this club, or somewhere else, I don't know." Yorke was a bargain £200,000 signing from Australian champions Sydney when he arrived on a frantic closing day of the summer transfer window last season. And Keane's first signing as a manager has not let him down – showing all of his leadership and ability as Sunderland climbed from the relegation zone to the Championship title and top flight survival. There has been much talk that Keane's former Manchester United colleague – in the top 10 scorers and appearance makers in Premier League history - could now return to Australia. Yorke said: "Everyone knows I had a fantastic time out there. I'm sure they will be watching closely to see what I'm still capable of doing. "They know how much I enjoyed being in Australia, but this was a challenge I just couldn't pass up at the time." There have also been suggestions in some reports that Yorke could be offered a player-coach role on Wearside. "To be perfectly honest, I've only heard that rumoured around and I have not had that put to me," said the former Champions League winner with United. "It's no secret that I'm doing my coaching badges. I feel like I've got knowledge of the game I can pass on to other players. But I do want to play at some stage next season. "I've just to go away and think about the whole thing and obviously it's got to be a situation that suits both parties." (May 12,Sunderland Echo) |
