BECKHAM'S FABULOUS T&T EXPERIENCE |

![]() The former Manchester United star says that he feels he can definitely play an important role in England's World Cup campaign and doesn't see himself playing in the United States as a problem regarding his selection for the Three Lions.
“I never expected to come to Trinidad and Tobago during my career and I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I’ve known about Trinidad because we played each other at the World Cup and I’ve been a friend of Dwight since our days at Manchester United. But to come here and see the country itself was a fabulous experience,” Beckham said. Looking back at the coaching clinic in which he interacted with some 80 local kids as well as fortunate fans who had the opportunity to get close to him at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Beckham added: “That was wonderful. The kids were great and I think we all had a fabulous time. Everyone was really into it.” On the match itself, Beckham added :Our manager’s plans was that we play solidly for the first 20 minutes and that’s what we did. A lot of teams want to beat England and we know Trinidad and Tobago wanted to do that as well because it was their centennial match so we took this game very seriously.I don't think they (T&T) should be discouraged. We played a hard game and we wanted to win. We were focused.” “I'm always going to be the same player - whether I'm playing in Spain, England or the USA," he said. "I want to be part of the squad for the 2010 World Cup if at all possible. The manager has already said if I stay fit and I am performing, then I've got a chance." Beckham's long time partner, Dwight Yorke called for there to be continued support for T&T head coach Francisco Maturana. “I think the people and everyone involved needs to stay behind him because he will need all the support he can get. He’s trying to build the right team and they can only learn from experiences like this one. It’s always difficult to lose especially in front of your home fans but I felt there were one or two positives from it which we can take away with us. It felt great playing in front of the home fans again,” Yorke said. "People need to remember that this is not the same team. It's one that is rebuilding. I'm quite sure it would have been a very good learning experience for the guys. I think they need all the support and the people have got to keep believing in them," Yorke added (June 2,2008.Photos/Reuters)
