Although it was a closed-door scrimmage and not even a full 90-minute training encounter… Swansea City striker Jason Scotland had a broad smile on his face after netting a neatly taken goal in the second half to put a T&T eleven 2-0 up in its 30 win over the Guyana National Team on Wednesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
Francisco Maturana observed proceedings from the stands as Jamaal Shabazz led his troops from the technical area. T&T only introduced its regular eleven in the second period. Before the half Kevaughn Connell put T&T up 1-0 with a superbly taken left footed free kick from 20 yards out which flew into the top left corner of the goal.
Guyana did manage a couple chances but nothing which could cause problems for neither Marvin Phillip nor Jan Michael Williams in goal.
Stern John was missing due to injury but Scotland made up as he collected through pass on the left and lost his man before clinically hitting past the Guyanese goalie from the left of the box.
Then Khaleem Hyland fired home from inside the area after a well orchestrated play late in the match.
As the first half progressed, the remaining T&T players went through some exercises behind the northern goal before entering the match after the interval. (June 4, 2008.Top photo shows Scotland in smiles after his goal on Wednesday.)
