If approved by FIFA within the next couple of weeks, then T&T ‘Soca Warriors’ surprise 2-1 loss to Bermuda on Sunday could well be the first and last match witnessed on home soil by local fans for the 2010 South Africa World Cup Qualification campaign. This was disclosed by T&T Football Federation special adviser and Fifa vice-president, Jack Warner at a media conference entitled-In Defence of Local Football-at the Queen’s Park Oval, President’s Box, Tragerete Road, yesterday. While expressing his confidence that T&T will over-turn the 2-1 deficit they face in the away leg which is carded for Sunday in Bermuda, Warner said that due to the ongoing feud between the T&TFF and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs under Minister Gary Hunt over the rental fees for the use of the Stadiums, the federation was forced to make certain decisions. He added, “ We have applied to Fifa to play all our home matches away at venues favourable to our players and on such terms and conditions which are considered fair and right for us. The USA (Meadow Lands, New Jersey) and Barbados are such countries Warner mentioned if it came to that. First T&T must beat Bermuda by two clear goals or more in Sunday's away leg. “In addition a feasibility study will be done on the Marvin Lee Stadium with a view to building an all seater new structure to accommodate 20,000 patrons, side by side with a new multi-storey car park. It’s is expected that this work will be completed in the shortest possible time but definitely before 2010, ” he boasted The T&TFF has already agreed that the Concacaf women Qualifying Championship in July; CFU Youth Cup (Boy’s and Girl’s) in August and the visit of a Brazilian youth team to play against a Tobago XI in September/October will all either be re-scheduled to other countries and/or other venues as negotiations are now taking place.
