BRAZIL U16S COMING! CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS KICK INTO HIGH GEAR THIS WEEK Print E-mail
 FIFA President Sepp Blatter and former French Football Star Michel Platini heads a list of global dignitaries arriving in this country on Thursday to be part of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation’s Gala Centennial Dinner at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence on Friday.

This and a host of other announcements were made at a media conference ahead of the coming set of activities at the Queens Park Oval Banquet Hall on Tuesday.

Aside from Saturday’s 2010 World Cup Qualifier between T&T and Guatemala at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Saturday, the next prime encounter will see Brazil’s National Under 16 team facing T&T’s National Under 17 team at the Marvin Lee Stadium from 6pm on Thursday. Brazil Football Confederation President Ricardo Teixiera will also be here for the dinner and to witness the games which include a second match on Sunday between Brazil’s U-16s and a Tobago Youth Eleven at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

On Wednesday, T&T's Senior Team faces Guyana from 5:30pm and T&T's U-20s face El Salvador's U-20s from 7:30pm.

TTFF Special Adviser Jack Warner also announced that Blatter and other guests will pay  courtesy visits on President  George Maxwell Richards, Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Sports Minister Gary Hunt. On Friday there will also be a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between FIFA and the University of the West Indies which Warner said would change the face of sports development in T&T.

He noted too that T&T will in fact host the 2010 FIFA Women's Under 17 World Championship and President Blatter will make the official announcement on the weekend.(September 2,2008)
