ST CLAIR TAKES EARLY LEAD IN SUPER LEAGUE QUALIFIERS

St Clair Coaching School jumped to the top of the standings after the opening set of matches in the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation National Super League qualifying tournament with a resounding 4-1 victory over Eagles United on Saturday.

In the action at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, St Clair went ahead early in the 2nd minute through Keon Samuel. But the Tobagonians were brought back to order as Eagles responded soon after, grabbing an equalizer from Bernard McCall in the 8th minute.

Both teams went into the half time interval deadlocked at one goal apiece but St Clair surged ahead on the resumption. Dareem Moore put them 2-1 ahead in the 48th and Samuel made it 3-1 a minute later. St Clair got a fourth item six minutes from time when Brian Hinds netted an own goal. St Clair top the table with three points ahead of West Side Spurs and Matura United on goal difference.

In another match played on the day West Side Stars downed Siparia Spurs 2-0 courtesy of a double by Fareem Edwards in the 37th and 70th minutes. Matura United meantime, had to hold off a stiff challenge from Real Maracas to come away 2-1 winners. Brian Hinds put the Maracas ahead in  the 10th minute but Matura responded well through goals by Keish Charles in the 47th minute and Cuffie Holder in the 74th.

Round two action takes places on Tuesday with all games kicking off at 3:30pm. The top two teams at the end of the round-robin series will qualify for the 2011 bmobile National Super League.

U-20s TO PLAY GUYANA IN WARM UP NEXT WEEK


Trinidad and Tobago’s National Under 20 will travel to Georgetown to face Guyana’s Under 20 team in a friendly match on January 14.

SUPER LEAGUE QUALIFIERS KICK OFF ON SATURDAY

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation National Super League Qualifying Competition 2011 will kick off this Saturday (Jan 15th) with three matches.

 

This year the top two teams will advance to the 2011 bmobile National Super League from the round-robin qualifying tournament which is being staged over five days of matches ending on Saturday February 5,2011.

 

On Saturday Westside Stars will face Siparia Spurs FC at the Paragon Ground, Queen’s Park Savannah from 3:30pm. In other matches, Real Maracas will tackle Matura Reunited at the Matura Recreation Ground also at 3:30pm while St Clair Coaching School will host Eagles United at the Dwight Yorke Stadium at the same time.

 

“This year we expect to action to be even more gripping and exciting than 2010,” said Secretary of the Competitions and Tournament Committee Neville Ferguson.

 

“There continues to be a growing interest from teams to be part of the Super League. We are looking forward to a fair and well contested tournament and season ahead in 2011,” Ferguson added.

 

T&TEC ended the 2010 season as double champions, finishing ahead of second placed 1976 FC Phoenix. The top six-placed finishers in the 2010 League will also take part in the Toyota Classic Event next month.

JONES IS TTFF 2010 TOP PLAYER... Keen to wear national colours again



Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones has been adjudged the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation "Player of the Year" for 2010.

Jones will also be a nominee for the First Citizen's Sportsman of the Year following the decision by the governing body for football in T&T.

Forming an alliance with the Dutch Football Association was the best option to chart the way forward for local football.
